Scuba Leeds Limited

CEASED TRADING

As the unprecedented increase in the cost of living takes ahold of the global markets, sadly the scuba diving industry hasn’t been without its casualties.

The internet can either be friend or foe to retailers depending on the amount of time and money a business is willing to throw at it, but have consumers raised their expectations just a little too high?

Are customers right to expect that every online trader they buy from should offer the same quality and levels of service in terms of stock, prices and next day delivery as billion-dollar titans like Amazon, Apple and Walmart?

SEPE Diving was fortunate to spend 12 months working closely with Scuba Leeds Limited as a contractor for diver instruction, regulator servicing and retail support. This provided us with a great insight into the market post covid, and allowed us to work and re-engage with some fantastic people.

Like many sectors in recent years, the scuba diving industry hasn’t been without its challenges. With increased manufacturing costs, brexit, rising energy bills and a significant jump in wages, these expenses were always inevitably going to have to be passed on to the customer in some form or another.

There is however some slight relief for these smaller business in knowing that they were not entirely alone in their downfall. With the recent collapse of industry heavyweight Simply Scuba which was owned and operated by Internet Fusion Group (IFG), the cost of living crisis is most certainly affecting everyone no matter how big or small.

We are naturally saddened to report that subject to a challenging 12 months of trading and matters well beyond our control, both SEPE Diving and Pete Walker will now be returning to exclusively providing independent scuba instruction.

On 20/04/23, a meeting of creditors took place on behalf of Scuba Leeds Limited to agree the appointment of a liquidator and consider a resolution for winding up the company.

Following a strong season working together, we are now proud to welcome PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT) Pete Walker to the SEPE Diving team, and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the future

We are aware that there are many current and aspiring divers out there who have sadly been financially affected by the recent collapse of Scuba Leeds. If SEPE Diving can be of any assistance in completing your course, or any future course, please get in touch with us.

Please note that SEPE Diving is also a business and we cannot run courses for free to compensate for any losses that you may have incurred from the administration of Scuba Leeds. We will however look to offer you the best pricing that we are able.

Regrettably, as former contractors, we are not permitted to deal with any queries relating to Scuba Leeds refunds, unclaimed / loaned equipment or purchased products that you may still be awaiting. We must duly redirect you to the appointed insolvency practitioner Christopher Brooksbank of CB Business Recovery to deal with any such matters.

The loss of Scuba Leeds is most certainly not only a loss to Leeds and the wider Yorkshire area, but to our shrinking industry as a whole.

Over many strong years of trading, Scuba Leeds had amassed a wealth of loyal customers, certified many, many divers and rightfully established itself as one of the few PADI Instructor Development Centres in the North of England.

With scuba stores up and down the country seemingly closing at an unfortunate rate of knots , it’s only likely to get harder to find great deals on courses, dive kit and gas fills.
