WHY SHOULD I DO THIS COURSE?

PADI Rescue Diver is one of the most rewarding and challenging continuing education scuba courses you can sign-up for. This scuba course teaches you to recognize and respond to dive emergencies, accident management, how to administer emergency oxygen and even fix common equipment problems — all while putting your physical strength to the test. Don’t let the name of the course deter you, PADI Rescue Diver training is fun!

WHAT WILL I DO?

During this course, you will learn how to use emergency oxygen, troubleshoot and fix minor gear issues as well as improve underwater your navigation skills. You will also learn how to recognise the signs of diver stress, how to identify a diver in need underwater or at the surface and how to rescue either yourself or another diver. Unlike the Open Water Diver course, trainee rescue divers spend little time in a pool, with most of the training and rescue scenarios taking place in open water.

KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT

The course consists of three parts: knowledge development, rescue training exercises and some open water scenarios. The knowledge development portion of the course can be completed in your own time. The rescue training exercises and open water dives typically take place over one or two days after completing all knowledge development tasks.

At first glance, the coursework may seem intimidating but upon completion of your training, you will undoubtedly have the tools to become a more confident scuba diver and buddy. You need not be seeking professional certification to take the Rescue Diver course. In fact, most divers take the course to simply become more self-aware whilst diving.

OPEN WATER DIVES

This course requires 1 day at open water where we will fine tune all the rescue skills that you have learned in the pool, putting them to the test, as close as possible, to real life rescue scenarios.

WHAT SCUBA GEAR WILL I USE?

You will be required to use all your basic scuba gear including an adequate thermal exposure suit such as a drysuit or wetsuit depending on the time of year.

WHAT ARE THE PREREQUISITES FOR THIS COURSE?

To enroll on the PADI Rescue Diver course you must be a PADI Adventure Diver who has completed the Underwater Navigation Dive, be a minimum of 12-years old and have completed the PADI Emergency First Response Primary & Secondary Care course within the previous 24 months.

You will also be required to complete the PADI Continuing Education Administrative Document and aMedical Statement before starting your course.

If you answer YES to any of the questions on the PADI Medical Statement, you will need to get a medical physician to sign a separate form to confirm fitness to dive prior to any in-water activities.
