PADI Wreck Diver

Ships, airplanes and even cars are exciting to explore and usually teem with aquatic life, with each wreck dive offering a chance for discovery, potentially unlocking a mystery or spying something others may have missed.
The PADI Wreck Diver course is the ideal program for divers wanting to explore sunken shipwrecks. Many divers find wrecked ships, aeroplanes and even cars almost impossible to resist as they are intriguing to explore, have exciting avenues of discovery, and are usually teeming with aquatic life.
The PADI Wreck Diver course teaches you the ins and outs of rewarding, responsible wreck diving as you will start gaining the knowledge and experience that allows you to see things that others overlook. Sometimes, only the trained, experienced eye recognises that a small hole or open door likely caused the vessel’s demise. Furthermore, there are wreck sites dotted around the globe. This gives an almost an infinite supply of places to visit to indulge in this fascinating experience.
WHY SHOULD I DO THIS COURSE?
The PADI Wreck Diver course allows you to learn the basics to safely explore wreck sites. Additionally, you will learn everything you need to expand your diving skills. This gives you the unique capabilities to explore wreck sites safely while discovering amazing new dive sites.
WHAT WILL I DO?
During this popular course, will you gain experience to plan, organise and carry out four wreck dives. This will give you the opportunity to apply the fundamentals learned from the theory and apply them to real life dives and wrecks. Moreover, your instructor will guide you through the course and share their own passion and experience.
There are many different types of wrecks, some of which are protected by laws that guard their historical and cultural significance. Your training starts by reviewing guidelines for researching and respecting wrecks.
During your four dives, you will learn:
How to avoid common hazards and risks.
Surveying and mapping a wreck.
How to safely use a spool to navigate inside a wreck, and how to follow a buddy’s previously-laid line.
Techniques to avoid kicking up silt or disturbing the wreck and its inhabitants.
How to research and learn the background of your favourite wrecks.
Wreck scuba diving equipment considerations.
Considerations and techniques for entering intact wrecks.
How to communicate inside a wreck including the use and signalling of dive lights.
Experience in planning, organising and making at least four wreck dives under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.
WHAT SCUBA GEAR WILL I USE?
You will need your basic scuba equipment. In addition to this, you will require a dive light to see into the wreck, a slate and underwater compass for mapping and navigation, and a line and reel for practising wreck penetration. Furthermore, your instructor may suggest other gear appropriate for wreck diving in your area
WHAT ARE THE PREREQUISITES FOR THIS COURSE?
If you’re at least 15 years old and have earned a PADI Adventure Diver certification or higher, you can enrol in the Wreck Diver Specialty course.
You will also be required to complete:
PADI Continuing Education Administrative Document
PADI Medical Statement
Answering YES to any of the questions on the PADI Medical Statement requires you to get a medical physician to sign the form to confirm your fitness to dive. This is required before any in-water activities.
Please note: you will not be able to take part in any pool or open water sessions without confirming your fitness to dive.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
After this course, your passion grows with each dive to a wreck. Further courses such as PADI Deep Diver and PADI Nitrox Diver will open up extended dives to the chance to visit deeper wrecks
